Hypnosis – What? Why? How?

1. What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is an open state of mind. It is a natural phenomenon, often described as a deep state of relaxation and concentration, wherein the mind becomes distant and detached from everyday cares and concerns. The state of hypnosis is neither sleep nor unconsciousness, but an altered state of awareness, often referred to as a “trance” state. Although, the word trance often has a negative connotation, hypnosis is in fact a positive state. We therefore prefer to describe it as a “hypnotic state” or a state of “creative relaxation.”

Hypnosis works by allowing us to communicate directly with the subconscious, which is the invisible part of our mind, which governs our every waking moment. The by-passing of the so-called “Conscious Critical Faculty” part of our mind, is what allows hypnosis to be so effective. Once newer, better ideas are accepted by the subconscious, they will be acted upon.

The experience of hypnosis is different for each person and there is no such thing as a “hypnotized feeling.” It is a deeply relaxing and enjoyable state of mind. Contrary to what you might have heard from less well-informed sources, an individual in the hypnotic state is in complete control of him or herself at all times, but is simply extraordinarily focused on their internal experience. Hypnosis cannot make you to do anything, or think anything that is not desired, or desirable for you.

When hypnosis is used for therapeutic purposes, known as hypnotherapy, it can help people in so many ways. Hypnotherapy can help people change unwanted habits and behaviours, overcome fears and phobias, conquer stress and anxiety, and so much more. By purposefully and systematically entering hypnosis we have an opportunity to foster physical and emotional balance at a subconscious level, and therefore improve the quality of our lives. Since we work with subconscious thought processes, hypnotherapy can often be much more effective, and produce much quicker results, than with those achieved by psychotherapy.

2. Does self hypnosis work for everyone?

It is thought that about five percent of people are classically “un-hypnotizable.” Most people show moderate scores and about ten percent can be hypnotized to extreme depths (and show the classical deep trance phenomena). When it comes to our self hypnosis recordings, depth of trance is not important. If you are willing to listen and to relax as deeply as you can, then you will experience the benefits.

We believe most people can benefit from self hypnosis and hypnotherapy. We cannot guarantee that “it” will work for you, because everyone is unique and therefore your experience of self hypnosis will be unique. Some people shy away from the use of self hypnosis because they do not understand how or why hypnosis works, or fear that they cannot be hypnotized. However, if you dedicate yourself to getting the most out of each session, then you will. By staying motivated, listening often, and following the suggestions, you are sure to experience successful self hypnosis.

3. Is self hypnosis suitable for everyone?

Self hypnosis and hypnotherapy are suitable for almost everybody. However, some people should not be induced into a state of hypnosis. This includes people who are psychotically ill. It is not that hypnosis is the problem, but any therapy for people who suffer from psychotic illnesses (such as schizophrenia) is highly specialized and psychotherapy alone often cannot treat psychosis.

Other people who are unsuitable are those who suffer from epilepsy. There is a slim chance that the state of hypnosis could trigger a convulsion, because some epileptic conditions can be triggered by a change in brain activity.

Please remember that hypnosis is a natural state of mind. Nevertheless, we feel we have a duty toward our customers, both from a professional and ethical perspective. We cannot and will not give medical advice, so if you are in any doubt your suitability to experience hypnosis, then people consult your doctor or a medical professional.

4. How safe is hypnosis? Should I be worried?

Hypnosis is a naturally occurring, beneficial, positive state, and is very safe, when used as directed in our self hypnosis instructions.

There are many myths and misconceptions about hypnosis, including far-fetched tales of people becoming “stuck” and being unable to wake-up. This can never happen and once you understand what hypnosis actually is, then you will have no such concerns.

In terms of health and well being, please know that hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation. We expect all medical practitioners would agree on the health benefits of relaxation.

5. Will self hypnosis totally change me as a person?

Hypnosis cannot alter your basic underlying personality, so please do not worry. You will still be you, but our self hypnosis recordings are designed to help you make the changes you want, in a positive, constructive way.

6. Is it better to visit a hypnotherapist or use recordings?

Some people may think that self hypnosis CDs and downloads are just not as good as visiting a hypnotherapist in person, but there are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. If you have access to one on one hypnotherapy, then that is great, but do not underestimate the use of high quality self hypnosis recordings, such as ours.

About our CDs and Downloads

7. How do your self hypnosis recordings work?

When listening to one of our self hypnosis CDs or hypnosis downloads you will be gently guided by the hypnotherapist into a state of deep relaxation. This is achieved, with your co-operation and permission, by a technique called progressive relaxation, which involves following simple verbal instructions and responding positively to the suggestions you hear.

Once you are deeply relaxed and are thereby more receptive to hypnotic suggestions, we begin to focus on the relevant issue or topic that you would like help with. We make use of many different advanced hypnotherapy techniques, which vary depending upon the particular session. We may ask you to follow along with various mental exercises, all carefully designed to help you bring about the positive changes that you seek.

8. What makes your self hypnosis products so special?

We believe our self hypnosis CDs and MP3 downloads are the best available, anywhere! Here are some of the reasons why:

  • Recordings voiced by top professional hypnotherapists.
  • All developed using advanced hypnotherapy techniques.
  • Each word is carefully scripted by our team of professionals.
  • Digitally mastered recordings, made in our professional studio.

The main reason you should put your faith in us, is because of our professional approach. We have been producing our own hypnotherapy sessions for over 16 years. During this time period, we have helped thousands of people, to help themselves and change their lives. We take immense pride in our work and we ensure that each recording we produce is of the highest possible quality, not just in terms of audio quality, but the content within each session.

9. Are there any samples that I can listen to?

Yes, you can listen to various samples of our recordings on our hypnotherapists page.

10. How long are your self hypnosis sessions?

Almost all of our self hypnosis sessions are between 20 to 25 minutes. This is the optimum time frame for a self hypnosis recording. We know this from personal and professional experience, but this viewpoint is also supported by our bodies’ natural Ultradian Rhythms.

If we thought longer recordings could produce better results, then we would make longer recordings. The truth is, after about 20 minutes or so, people tend to either lose focus or fall asleep. Even if you visited a hypnotherapist for an hour long session, it is unlikely that you would experience the hypnotic state for the entire duration of the session, for the very same reasons. You would most likely spend about 20 to 25 minutes, maybe 30 minutes, in hypnosis, with the remainder of the time being taken up by work outside the hypnotic state.

Please also be aware that repeated listening is one of the key factors for self hypnosis success. The more you hear hypnotic suggestions, the more likely they are to be accepted by your subconscious. It is hard to listen to really long recordings as frequently, and we know that motivation is helped and maintained if listened to everyday.

We therefore believe that self hypnosis recordings with a length of around 20 to 25 minutes are not only more effective, but they are also much more user-friendly.

11. When will I notice the results of self hypnosis?

This is impossible to answer because everybody is unique and everyone’s experience of self hypnosis is also unique. Therefore, everybody will experience positive changes at different speeds and times. Some people notice results right away or after a few days, whereas for others it might take weeks, even months, before they notice changes.

Change is rarely an “Aha!” moment or some eureka experience. It is more often something that happens, without us really even noticing at first. We all have our own unique inner world and we each have our own time frame for change. It is impossible to predict when and how change will occur. Nevertheless, self hypnosis is one of the most effective means of bringing about permanent and lasting change, even if we are not immediately aware of it.

12. When and where should I listen to your self hypnosis sessions?

Many people like to listen to our self hypnosis sessions at night, before bedtime. Listening in the morning or afternoon, is fine too. You can listen whenever or wherever it is safe and convenient for you to do so. Pick a time and a place where you are unlikely to be disturbed. Most importantly, do NOT listen when driving, operating machinery, or when doing something that requires your full conscious attention.

Learn more:

13. How often do I need to listen to each self hypnosis session?

Repeated listening is one of the keys to success with self hypnosis recordings. In general, we recommend you listen everyday for the first week, then every other day for the following three weeks for maximum positive benefits. After this, you should listen to them whenever you feel the need. Many people enjoy our sessions so much, that they continue to benefit from them, by listening regularly.

14. Why do I need to listen more than once if they are so effective?

You do not necessarily need to listen to our recordings every day. Our self hypnosis instructions should be viewed as a general guide. Some sessions may only need to be listened to occasionally, but many issues, particularly those that may need more time to overcome, require repeated listening. The regular concentrated use of our recordings means any suggestions, within a session, are more likely to be accepted by your subconscious mind. This means you are much more likely to fully benefit from their use.

15. Can I listen to a self hypnosis session more than once a day?

Twice a day is fine, but this does not mean a session will be twice as effective. It would be better to listen to two different sessions on the same day, rather than the same one, twice. We do not recommend listening to the same session more than twice per day, or listening to more than two different sessions on the same day.

16. Can I use more than one self hypnosis session at once?

Yes, you may listen to more than one session over the same time period. This is what many people like to do. As mentioned a moment ago, we do not recommend listening to more than two sessions on the same day.

It is also important to understand that some issues are complex and have the potential to conflict, so should not be tackled at the same time. For example, it is very difficult to stop smoking and lose weight at the same time. It would be far better to concentrate on each issue separately. In such cases, it would be best to start with one issue and focus on that. Once you notice positive results, then you may wish to begin working on the next issue.

To use multiple sessions effectively you can either listen to two sessions on the same day, or on alternate days. There are no hard and fast rules, but we recommend you do not listen to too many different sessions over the same period, which is why we limit purchases to 5 sessions per order.

Learn more:

17. Can I listen to two or more sessions, one right after another?

You can if you wish, but we do not recommend doing so. It would be much better to have some breathing space between sessions. Almost all of our sessions are approximately 20 to 25 minutes in length, which is the optimum time frame for self hypnosis. Combining two or more sessions, right after the other, would mean you are more likely to lose focus or fall asleep.

18. Is there a limit to how many I should listen to in a day?

We suggest a maximum of two per day, with a break of an hour or more between recordings. Anymore than that may cause confusion and you may not reap the full benefits of hypnotherapy.

19. Are these recordings suitable for falling asleep to?

Most of our self hypnosis sessions have an awakening section at the end, but you can still use them to fall asleep to if you wish, by simply turning off the recording towards the end, prior to awakening. Because you will feel so relaxed after listening, it will be easy to drift off into natural sleep.

20. Does it matter if I fall asleep whilst listening?

It is generally better if you do not fall asleep when listening. Hypnosis can be a natural bridge into sleep, so it is not uncommon for people to drift off to sleep. Many people like to listen in bed, which is fine. But we tend to associate our beds with sleeping, so if you find that you continuously fall asleep, then we recommend trying a different location or position. You might get better results by listening whilst sitting in a comfortable chair or recliner instead.

Do not worry too much if you fall asleep when listening to our self hypnosis sessions. The subconscious mind never sleeps, so keep using them for full positive benefit.

21. Is it common to fall asleep and then wake up towards the end?

Yes, this is common. Some people often feel as if they have been sleeping the whole time and then just happen to wake up near the end. The truth is,you were probably not actually sleeping during the session. It is more likely that you were deeply relaxed and your subconscious mind knew it was time to wake up.

22. Can I listen to a session on a loop, throughout the night?

We suggest that you use our self hypnosis CDs and downloads as directed. Concentrated use of self hypnosis is beneficial, which is why we recommend regular use. However, since we do not recommend listening to a session and then immediately listening to another, listening on a loop is definitely not the way to go. Also, we do not want to disturb your sleep pattern, as regular sleep is important for your overall health.

23. Do I need to listen with headphones or can I listen on speakers?

If you do not have any headphones, then yes, you can listen via speakers. Although, we strongly recommend that you listen with headphones (or earbuds), if you can. Headphones also help in cutting down on any possible distractions. Remember that concentration is a key factor for self hypnosis success and your focus can be easily interrupted by outside noise.

24. Why am I asked to count back from 300?

On some of our self hypnosis sessions, we use a counting down method of inducing the state of hypnosis. It is a technique that can help focus the conscious part of your mind. However, it is only a small part of the process and if you prefer to listen to the words being said by the hypnotherapist during the count down, then that is fine. If you find it distracting, then just stop counting and allow yourself to relax deeply.

25. I am finding it hard to relax. Do you have any tips?

Many people say they have trouble relaxing and some fear it may impact their ability to benefit from hypnosis. The good news is that there is no better way to learn how to relax both your mind and your body, than with self hypnosis. Our advice is to simply let go and cheerfully accept the fact that you will probably not feel hypnotized, because the truth is... there is no such thing as a hypnotized feeling. Just enjoy the process and let everything happen naturally. Listen to what is being said and if you are being asked to concentrate on something, just follow along and keep your focus.

If you dedicate yourself to getting the most out of each session, then you will. By staying motivated, listening often, and following the suggestions you are sure to experience successful self hypnosis.

27. Is it safe to use self hypnosis when pregnant?

Yes, regular deep relaxation can only help you and your baby during pregnancy. In fact, we have developed a specific title for pregnancy, titled “Easy Natural Childbirth”.

28. Are your self hypnosis products available in other languages?

No, our products are only available in English.

We are sometimes asked if our self hypnosis recordings can still be effective if the listener does not understand any English. The answer to this, is no. If you visited a psychotherapist, and he or she spoke in a language that you could not understand, then it would be a waste of your time. Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy. It is not magic, so you need to at least have some understanding of what is said.

29. Do you make custom recordings?

We don't usually have time to make custom recordings, but please contact us if you are interested and specify exactly what it is you're looking for.

40. How long do I have to wait until I receive my download(s)?

All downloads are instantly available on the order confirmation page, which is presented to you immediately after making your payment. You may also login to your account with us, at any time, to access your order(s) and download any ordered sessions.

41. Do I need a special program to play the MP3 downloads?

Our regular self hypnosis downloads are standard MP3 files and can be played on any MP3 player. Most computers have some type of media player for MP3 files, such as the Windows Media Player. Modern smartphones and tablets also tend to have internal MP3 players, so you should be able to listen on your phone or on a tablet.

If you are using an iOS or Android device then we highly recommend you use our app to download and play your downloads.

42. Can I play your hypnosis downloads on my phone or tablet?

Yes, absolutely. If you have an iOS (Apple) or Android phone or tablet then we recommend you use our app to download and play your sessions. If you have another type of device then you should still be able to play our downloads, provided your device can play MP3 files.

Learn more:

43. How large are the MP3 files and how long do they take to download?

Our MP3 downloads are approximately 20mb in size. Each MP3 should only take a matter of seconds to download, although this will obviously depend on your internet speed. If you have a slow internet connection then it may take a few minutes, or possible longer.

44. Can I make a copy of your hypnosis download(s)?

Our self hypnosis MP3 downloads are for personal use only and are restricted to one person, per download. You are allowed to make one copy onto a CD for your own personal use. Please see our terms and conditions page for more information.

45. How can I save an MP3 directly onto my iPad or iPhone?

If you are using an Apple device, such as an iPhone or iPad, then please download and install our iOS app. Once installed, simply login using your account credentials and you should then see all available downloads listed on the 'Sessions' screen. You can then click on the download button to save them directly to your device and play them on the inbuilt MP3 player.

Please be aware that Apple devices are incapable of saving files directly, so if you do not own a computer then we strongly recommend you download and install our app. If you don't use the app then the MP3 will 'stream' and may skip / jump when your internet connection fails. Alternatively you can use a computer (or a device that is capable of saving files) to download your sessions and then sync them to your iPhone/iPad the same way you would with music files (via iTunes).

Learn more:

46. Why does my download skip and jump?

This is almost always because you have not actually downloaded the MP3 file. If you are using an Apple device, such as an iPhone or iPad, then please see our answer to the previous question.

If you are sure that you have download the file completely (check where you saved it and the file size), then clearly there is something wrong. Please download the self hypnosis session again, if you can. Be sure to contact us if the problem persists.

47. On iTunes it says that “the original file cannot be located”. Why?

This would be because you selected to open the file instead of saving the file when originally downloading the self hypnosis download. Remember that when downloading the session from our site, you will most likely be presented with the standard pop up box, which gives you the option to “open” or “save” to disk. You must save it and choose a suitable location.

48. I have downloaded onto my Android, but it says “File Won't Open.” What do I do?

This is a common issue with Samsung and some other Android based phones. To solve this, please use our app.

49. I lost my download I ordered. How do I download it again?

Please login to your account with us. Once you login to your account, all your downloads will be listed under “Available Downloads.”

For older orders, that are not visible within your account, please contact us and we will gladly set this up for you. Since all downloads are served via customer accounts, please ensure you have created an account with us. When you contact us, please quote your previous order number. If you no longer have this information, then we would need to know more details (such as a date) so that we can locate your original order.

50. I get an error message when I try to download an MP3

If you see an error message (such as an expiration notice) when attempting to download an MP3, then please contact us and let us know your order number. We shall then reset your download link(s).
