Habits and disorders are subconscious actions, by definition. The subconscious part of your mind sets off a pattern of behavior in response to a trigger, such as stress or boredom, which is cemented in place by repetition. The visible behavior, such as biting your nails, is just the end result of this process. This is why you can know, consciously, that your habit isn’t helping you in any way, whilst continuing to do it.
Habits are uniquely susceptible to hypnotic intervention, since hypnotherapy is a way of communicating with your subconscious mind. By speaking directly to the part of your mind that is in charge of the habit or disorder, we can help change the pattern of behavior. Positive suggestions are used to provide new information, helping the subconscious mind to perceive the habit in a different way and encouraging more beneficial reaction to the triggers.
All of our self hypnosis CD's and MP3 downloads are written and produced to the highest standards, using the latest hypnotherapy techniques and most advanced psychological approaches. The strategies we use in our self hypnosis audio programs are the same as those used by our professional hypnotherapists, which have helped thousands of people free themselves from the distress of unwanted habits.
The short answer is that there is no difference at all. Both involve unwanted patterns of behavior triggered by subconscious reactions and reinforced through repetition. Broadly speaking, however, a habit might be described as a repetitive action, such as nail-biting, whereas a disorder is a generalized and unhelpful response to a situation.
Using this definition, nail-biting could be categorized as a habit, and excessively fussy eating could be categorized as a disorder. Another point to bear in mind is that there are many habits which are actually helpful, which is rarely the case with disorders.
Although these disorders seem to be a product of the body, rather than the mind, they are still the result of subconscious mental processes. Bed-wetting, for example, often develops as a psychological response to emotional upset.
Since these disorders are controlled by the subconscious mind, they can be treated successfully with high quality hypnotherapy. However, as with all disorders that manifest physically, it is only sensible to ensure that there is no underlying medical reason for them.
Willpower, or the lack of it, has no influence on your ability to change your habits in the long term. It is true that you can change your habits through sheer force of will, for a little while, but sooner or later, they will creep back in. This is because habits and disorders are controlled by the subconscious mind, and willpower is the product of conscious action.
Permanent change to a pattern of behavior can only occur when the change is made at a deep, subconscious level. Hypnotherapy is, in our opinion, the most effective way of doing this.
Our “Breaking Bad Habits” self hypnosis CD / MP3 download is designed to eliminate unhelpful habits generally. This is because all unhelpful habits are produced and maintained by the same subconscious mental process, regardless of the details.
We would also encourage you to browse our entire selection of self hypnosis audios, since you may find a hypnotherapy program that addresses your particular habit under another category, such as “Addictions” or “Healthy Mind”.
The self hypnosis CD's and MP3 downloads in this section are really designed to address personal habits and unwanted patterns of behavior. For habits that involve a particular substance, such as nicotine or alcohol, please see our “Addictions” category.
Yes, but these are included in our “Healthy Mind” category. Please check there for more details.
A one-to-one session with a professional hypnotherapist will obviously be tailored to you as an individual and take account of your personal situation. Whilst it would be impossible for us to duplicate this, pre-recorded hypnotherapy sessions have many advantages.
In the first place, they are completely private. This can be an important consideration if you’re not comfortable talking about your habit to a stranger. Secondly, you can listen to our hypnotherapy recordings as often as you like, reinforcing positive change through repetition.
There is no hard and fast answer to this question. The type of change that you see and the pace at which it happens will very much depend on you as an individual. The time frame for change is different for everyone, so the changes that you experience will be meaningful to you, whenever they occur.
Hypnosis isn’t magic, and it would be wrong of us to suggest that it will always work for anyone who listens to our self hypnosis sessions. However, the advanced hypnotherapy techniques we use have been developed in professional practice and have helped many individuals to overcome their habits and disorders. Regular listening can significantly increase your chances of getting the results you want.
I had become addicted to nicotine gum even though I didn’t smoke. Strange, right? I originally got the gum to help me lose weight and then got addicted to it. But thanks to hypnosis I’ve not chewed any gum (not even normal gum) for 5 days straight, which if you knew me you’d know is pretty amazing. Thank you so much. I’ll be getting more of your hypnosis tracks for sure!
