Many people choose hypnotherapy because it is a much more rapid form of treatment than other options, such as traditional psychotherapy. Quite simply, they want fast results and hope that the use of hypnosis will get them there. And it’s true, you can accomplish quite a bit in a rather short amount of time with hypnotherapy vs. psychotherapy. Our hypnosis recordings are powerful tools that help you to tap into your unconscious (subconscious) mind, breaking down barriers that inhibit success. However, it’s important to keep in mind that nothing is immediate.
In fact, focusing on getting fast results can actually get in the way of treatment. I’ve often had people ask me if they can listen to hypnosis all night, replaying a recording over and over again on a loop. They think that the repetition will speed up the process and help them achieve their goals in less time. This is not the case and can actually inhibit your success.
It’s unrealistic to think that listening to hypnosis all night will cure you upon waking. The brain needs time, unconscious and conscious, to absorb and rewire automatic responses. Unrealistic expectations quickly dissolve into dissatisfaction and can ultimately end up in a person giving up. The mind and body, which are intrinsically connected, need time to bring about cognitive change. You wouldn’t expect to drop 20 pounds in one day of dieting, or run a marathon after one day of training. No, you expect that to take time. Hypnosis, although faster at bringing about results, even in these areas, is not magic.
Another reason not to listen to our hypnosis downloads or CDs all night is because it could cause you to become emotionally overloaded. More than likely, whatever situation brought you to hypnotherapy is not one without emotional ties. Spending the entire night listening to hypnosis involves such an emotional bond that it can have a counter effect. The unconscious mind is very much like a muscle; overexertion can cause pain, and without time off to rebuild, even prevent healing.
Speaking of overexertion, let’s not forget that listening to anything all night, be it a hypnosis download or any other sound, prevents truly restful and restorative sleep. Not getting enough sleep can be detrimental to your health and happiness. In this case, even if the message were to get through, without a healthy body and mind to work with, you’re unlikely to experience optimal results. It’s much better to listen less frequently and get a better night’s sleep.
How frequently should a person listen to a hypnosis download or CD? Once a day, twice at the most, is ideal. What hypnosis seeks to do is plant a suggestion in the unconscious and allows that suggestion time to take root and flourish. The brain is perfectly capable of doing this with once daily listening. Keeping at it is important. Listening once a week is not likely to bring about the quick results you seek, so do be sure to listen with regularity. Also, when working with multiple hypnosis downloads at the same time, make sure they are complimentary and consider alternating days so as not to overload yourself.
With regular listening and realistic expectations hypnosis can help you get the results you desire. Just don’t assume that listening to hypnosis all night will get you there any faster. Let your unconscious mind do the work and let your body rest.
