Self hypnosis works directly with the part of the mind that controls the emotional responses and subconscious habits that can lead to sleep problems. When you listen to our self hypnosis CD's and MP3 downloads, you will enter a state of relaxed but focused attention, in which your subconscious mind is more open to positive suggestion. The hypnotherapy techniques and suggestions we use are designed to help your subconscious mind re-learn its natural capacity for sleep, as well as helping to resolve the psychological roots of poor sleep.
In addition, it’s important to remember that self hypnosis is inherently relaxing! Simply listening to one of our hypnotherapy CD's or downloads can be a great way of helping you to calm your mind and prepare for a good night’s sleep.
Insomnia can be caused by many factors, but most often it is linked to stress or anxiety. Excessive worry or rumination actively interferes with your ability to drift off into sleep – this is the “racing mind” syndrome that you will probably be familiar with. Once this mental pattern is established, it can become a vicious circle, as worrying about the fact that you can’t get to sleep or lying awake worrying about your problems makes insomnia more likely, which in turn leads to more stress and worry.
Insomnia can also be the result of sheer force of habit – in other words, you can quickly become used to not sleeping. Every time you experience a sleepless night, it anchors the habit more firmly in place.
We should also acknowledge that there are environmental and behavioral reasons for insomnia, such as an uncomfortable bed, a noisy or overheated bedroom, or over stimulation from caffeine, TV or computers. There are practical solutions for most of these, but it’s also important to address your subconscious reactions to your environment as well as the environment itself.
The good news is that all of these insomnia-causing factors are amenable to hypnotic intervention. Through self hypnosis and hypnotherapy, we can contact the subconscious mind and update it with new information and suggestions. Once the sleeplessness cycle has been broken and you are enjoying better sleep, everyday problems become easier to deal with. This reduces stress and worry, leading to better sleep the next night, and so on.
If you suffer from insomnia then we recommend using our “Sleep Now!” self hypnosis CD / MP3 download. You may also wish to supplement this with other recordings, such as for stress and anxiety. Please see our “Healthy Mind” category for an overview of these sessions.
This is a very common problem and is often linked to the quality of your sleep, rather than the amount of time you actually spend sleeping. Sleep moves in phases, from a shallow, dreaming phase to deeper, more restful sleep, during which bodily healing and regeneration take place.
If you are waking up feeling tired, despite getting plenty of hours of sleep, it’s likely that you are spending too long in the shallower phases of the sleep cycle. This can be due to stress or anxiety, as your mind and body attempt to process these emotions through your dreams. It could also be due to noise, including your own snoring, which prevents you from entering the deeper phases of sleep but is not enough to actually wake you up.
Self hypnosis can help you with this, as the hypnotic state is an effective way of processing unresolved emotions in your subconscious mind. We also have a “Wake Up Fresh and Alert” program, which is designed to boost your internal energy and prepare you to wake up at the appropriate time feeling rested and refreshed.
Snoring has often been described as a sleep problem that affects other people! However, as noted above, it can also affect your own quality of sleep. For both of these reasons, it’s a good idea to try and get your snoring under control.
Although snoring is a physical problem, there are often psychological reasons behind it. Our self hypnosis programs address both aspects of the issue. “Stop Snoring” is designed to help you if you’re a snorer, whilst “Manage the Sound of Snoring” is designed to help you tune out the noise if your partner snores.
Nightmares are a common, if not universal occurrence, since they are a particularly vivid dreaming response to emotional upset or trauma. However, for some people, they can become a chronic problem, something very different and more serious than just a bad dream. Nightmares are genuinely terrifying – and the anticipation of experiencing them before you go to sleep only makes them worse.
Our “Overcome Nightmares” self hypnosis CD / MP3 download is designed to deal with the psychological roots of nightmares, removing the traumatic emotions that keep them in place and breaking the habit of anticipation. We do this through gentle, non-intrusive hypnotic relaxation and suggestion, so there is no question of having to “re-live” the nightmare in order to get rid of it.
We would usually say that it is generally better if you do not fall asleep when listening to our self hypnosis CD's and downloads, but when it comes to insomnia, then so much the better!
Self hypnosis is inherently relaxing, so it is quite common to fall asleep whilst listening to one of our hypnotherapy recordings. Do not worry about this because at some level, you will still be aware of what is being said, allowing you to make the necessary changes at an subconscious level. Look on it as much needed extra sleep.
A professional hypnotherapist can tailor a session to you as an individual, taking account of your personal circumstances, goals and resources. Whilst we cannot match that level of personal intervention, pre-recorded self hypnosis CD's and MP3 downloads have many advantages, not least the fact that you can listen to them over and over again to really embed their positive effects. Many people also find that listening to our hypnotherapy CD's and downloads can be a valuable part of their sleep preparation routine, as they are a good way of preparing the subconscious mind to drift off to sleep.
Hypnosis is naturally occurring state of mind and a powerful way of communicating with the subconscious mind. Hypnotherapy allows you to make changes and produce more beneficial responses at this subconscious level. However, it is not a miracle cure and we cannot guarantee that it will work for everyone. Neither is hypnotherapy a substitute for conventional medical treatment. Instead, it is a complementary treatment, that can be safely used alongside other approaches.
Having said that, all of our sessions have been produced by professionals in the field, with a great deal of expertise and experience helping people to overcome their sleep problems. We believe that repeated listening to our self hypnosis CD's and MP3 downloads can help you to resolve the psychological issues that often lie behind poor quality sleep.
For much of this year I have been suffering from very bad insomnia which was affecting the quality of my life. I downloaded the ‘Sleep Now!’ hypnosis recording and I connected really well with Barrie’s voice. I only have to listen for a few minutes now and I’m deeply relaxed. I listen just before sleep and let it play. Simply the best!

Being kept awake with a snorer is not a very pleasant thing. So I decided to try your hypnosis program and it worked. It is not an instant fix, you do have do as they say on the blurb but give it time and the snorer is a snorer no more and if you do have a lapse, use it again, we did. Much better than an elbow in the back or a trip to the spare room.
